Christine Urio 7 Steps

1.     Problem we’re trying to solve:  Encourage people to recycle
2.     Identify target audience:  Reach as many people as possible; recycling isn’t limited to a specific demographic but effects virtually everyone equally; therefore, the video should be diverse in the people, concepts, and location; keep the language/concept general so it can reach people of all ages and education levels.  In addition, it needs to target those who specifically do not care about the environment; therefore, it should concentrate on reaching people who have this mindset, which would fall into demographics of the uneducated, and elderly, because environmentalism is a fairly modern issue.
3.     Objective:  We want to encourage people to recycle because we want to preserve/save the earth and make a positive impact
4.     Strategy:  Use both emotion and reasonà tap into people’s fear to show them what could happen if we keep being as wasteful as we are and do not start recycling.  Demonstrate how people can be happy and feel satisfied with themselves knowing they are contributing assistance to a larger and pressing issue at hand.  Statistics should also be available to the audience so they can have a numerical visual of the impact this could have on the environment and show the outcome of how the numbers could drop once recycling begins, portraying a reasonable argument.
5.     Content:  To make this video a reality, we would need outdoor locations such as parks and dumps/landfills.  We would also need people of all ages, races, and gender.
6.     Medium:  Video
7.     Create the concept:
®   Serious takeà Show landfills piled with waste; garbage in the ocean, on the side of the street, littered throughout the woods; have a deep, serious voice narrating; a before and after shot of how much waste would be reduced in a landfill if people started recycling to portray the effect it can have;
®   Positive takeà Show people smiling, happy to be recycling; a family recycling bottles at a store; an athlete using a reusable water bottle; using regular dishes during dinner instead of paper plates; have an uplifting, positive voice narrating; use lots of light, bright, sunny, outdoor spaces to highlight the beauty of nature; incorporate a lot of earthy tones, blue, green, browns
