EXT- Carnival- Dusk

The carnival’s lights are illuminating the faces of the people roaming around the attractions.  Boys and girls are racing one another to get in lines for the Ferris wheel towering over the crowd. The mood is joyful as smiles and laughs are seen and heard throughout the people.  Amidst the groups of people walking around together, FORTUNATO is seen wandering the carnival by himself.  He seems to be drunk by the way he stumbles with every step.  Watching like a hawk from a distance is MONTRESOR.                He seems to be studying FORTUNATO’s every step, like a vulture stalking its prey. Montresor begins a slow and ominous walk towards FORTUNATO.

MONTRESOR

Hey Fortunato, looks like you’re struggling a little bit over. Have a bit too much to drink?

FORTUNATO

(drunk, slurring)

Hey there buddy! Oh I’m alright just enjoying the wine they got here. Ain’t too bad, nothing special though.

MONTRESOR takes the glass of wine out of FORTUNATO’s hand and begins to whisk it around in the cup and smells it. He stares at FORTUNATO with an almost hateful glare; FORTUNATO is too drunk to notice the malicious stare and he begins to aimlessly stare around the carnival.

MONTRESOR

Ain’t too bad? This crap is pretty awful. I’ll tell you what, Luchesi let me know earlier today that he just got in a pipe of Amontillado, he said-

FORTUNATO

(interrupting)

Amontillado?! AHAHAHA? Luchesi?! AHAHAH

FORTUNATO begins obnoxiously hurling over in laughter, making a fool out of himself.  He continues his spectacle for around 15 seconds, throughout the last 10 seconds the camera remains on MONTRESOR who stares coldly at FORTUNATO the whole time.

FORTUNATO

That idiot can’t tell Amontillado from Sherry!

MONTRESOR

Well I guess I’ll just have to go to Luchesi and buy it myself.  You’re loss.

MONTRESOR begins to walk away from FORTUNATO.

FORTUNATO

Montresor, wait! Uh.. I mean I might as well come with you, just in case if Luchesi isn’t wrong for once.

With his back still turned to FORTUNATO, a smirk begins to widen across his face.  A medium shot shows FORTUNATO behind MONTRESOR with MONTRESOR’S back still turns to him. MONTRESOR quickly makes eye contact with the camera with smirk still on his face.  He turns to FORTUNATO.

Montresor

Great. I could use some company.
